Update: You can’t plug into port adequately with the case on. The bottom portion needs to be flipped down to do so effectively. Not a major issue, but thought I’d mention.

The case fits on the iPad pretty well, including the contour on the back. It does seem to make the iPad feel a bit heavier, but I just need to get used to it. The one thing about silicone cases in general is that it makes it hard to slide the iPad in and out of the InCase pouch, which is why I never use these on my iPhone as it turns your pockets inside out when you try and pull the iPhone out of your pocket. The screen protector went on easy, but it was impossible to get all the bubbles out, so I also chucked it. I’ll wait for some better screen protectors to come out. In the meantime, I have the InCase pouch that I keep the iPad in, but again, it’s very difficult to slide the iPad in and out of the pouch. But this case is okay, I’ll keep it.

Fact is: This thing DOES NOT fit.

a) The actual iPad is bigger and thicker

b) the speakers do not align with the openings

c) the earphone opening is too small – I tried 4 earphones (2 of them Apple made) – none of them plug all the way in

d) the case is too soft – it doesn’t hold its form, so the iPad could slip out of the (not-fitting) case rather easily

Obviously, the makers are not that strong with the Force, that they cannot predict the correct dimensions of the iPad before it was released by Apple.

Alternatively, I must be on a planet where laws of physics are different from those who give the 5 stars, 4 stars reviews. Whether the glowing reviews here are home-cooking or not, I’d let you to decide.

Now I understand why the InCase iPad case ($39.99 at AppleStore) is so thick and expensive: Because it needs to be thick (so the earphone opening could be large enough), and it needs to be harder (so it won’t change form while you’re holding it, preventing the iPad from slipping out of the case).

What you pay is what you get. In this case, I get a piece of crap.

This is an excellent case and fits the iPad just right, not too tight. The best part about the case is that the silicone material prevents the iPad from slipping out of your hands, in addition to protecting the back from scratches. However, I am not satisfied with the the screen protector that came with it. I was not successful in applying it properly. Kept leaving bubbles. After a couple of tries, I simply gave up. I would buy it just for the case.

I wanted a cover with a rubbery texture so the iPad wouldn’t be as likely to slide off surfaces, and I wouldn’t be as likely to drop it. This is exactly what it is. Shipping was quick also, overall a very good purchase for the price. The free screen guard works just like the iPhone versions and fits well too.

The screen protector was impossible to get all the little bubbles out. The screen protector was prone to getting things embedded in the outside face. The handling sticker on the screen protector required mineral oil to get the sticky off.

The rubbery case felt uncomfortable on my hands and made my hand feel a bit itchy.

I have an iPhone and have used a silicone case protector from Belkin. It has none of these problems.

Now I know why it was cheap. Had I paid more I’d be furious. As is I took it off and wrote it off as a bad purchase.

Pros:

* Inexpensive protection for the wallet you just emptied in acquiring this latest iToy.

* Protects all around the frame of the iPad, and leaves the connection slot, speaker, and switches functional. The microphone is partly covered, however. See cons.

* Included screen protector is adequate, but I’m not sure if it’s really necessary. Haven’t tried the key test yet.

* Because of the natural friction properties of rubber, the skin allows the iPad to lean on objects without sliding off; this is, by far, my favorite side-effect of this skin, as it allows me to lean the device at any angle on other objects.

* Skin is easily removed and installed for cleaning.

* Screen protector can be easily removed and replaced if you don’t like it.

* Rubber surface provides a very effective gripping surface for the slippery, and sharp, iPad.

* Allows the Apple USB cable to connect without having to remove the skin.

* The screen protector doesn’t seem to interfere with the touch responsiveness.

Cons:

* The thickness (~1/8″) of the skin makes it difficult to reach the rotate-lock switch, the headphone jack (if your headphone jack is not small enough to fit), and apparently it makes it impossible to dock with the Apple iPad keyboard dock.

* As noted by another reviewer, the product is great for its price, but the shipping leaves a great deal to be desired; case in point, the screen protector that came with it came with a crease in the middle of the screen, probably due to mishandling during shipping, and leaves a nice air bubble after installation. A hard paper sleeve/cardboard sleeve may help with shipping woes–take note, Vizu.

* The skin does not fit perfectly, as some other reviewers have noted, but this isn’t a big deal because I’m not that anal. The bottom of the skin wraps, but leaves a small gap where dirt can accumulate. The flip-side of this is that the skin can be easily removed for cleaning.

* Because of the frictional properties of rubber, this new skin attracts dirt and lint like the floor of my house. Hopefully, it’ll break-in over time, but I like my devices looking like cr*p anyway, because it discourages people from stealing them. I believe Apple’s iPad case has the same problem.

* The openings for the speaker, microphone, and rotate lock switch aren’t perfectly aligned with the device, again, making the rotate lock switch difficult to reach and flip. The speaker opening is purely an aesthetic issue. I have not tested the microphone, but since I can see the mic opening, it shouldn’t be an issue in real world practice. Reading the other reviews, it seems like this product is made inconsistently (or the iPad is, one or the other), and with fairly loose tolerances. Mind you, at this price range, you can’t expect to have tight tolerances.

Comments:

* The volume and power switches are covered by a thicker pad of rubber; this helps with the switch functionality, because the skin is ~1/8″ thick.

* Shipping took longer than most Amazon shipments (more than a week), perhaps because it was on a ground USPS truck from NY. I live in California.

* The skin covers the WiFi antenna (the Apple logo), but I have had no issues with the connection so far. Will update as required.

* I wish the skin covered the bezel, because the current design makes it seem really flimsy at the bottom’s edge. However, a thicker bezel might mean a more difficult installation.

* The screen protector has specific instructions for installation; FOLLOW THEM. I found using my thumbs works really well to push the air bubbles from the center of the screen towards the edges.

* It adds weight to the iPad, but for the added security in my hands and scratch protection, it’s a fair tradeoff.

* It adds very little overall thickness to the device, as I have no trouble placing the whole thing in my Timbuk2 laptop bag (without a laptop).

* For the price, ~$13 shipped, I can’t complain too much. I was hoping for a hard plastic case with rubberized exterior, but I think I prefer this all-rubber design because I can lean the iPad with it. In fact, it earns an extra star because of the value this thing holds. J

* The manufacturer offers an entry to a contest if an honest review is submitted to both Amazon and emailed back to them. Be sure to read the attached Thank You note.

* This must be the longest review anyone has ever written about a $13 piece of rubber.

Update 05/04/2010:

* WiFi doesn’t seem to be affected by the extra layer of rubber.

* The seller has sent me a replacement screen protector after I emailed them. They even took my suggestion to use a cardboard sleeve for shipping. Mint condition! 5 STARS for the seller.

Just received the cover today and put it on. IT DOESNT FIT!!! The lips of the skin cover the side edges on the ipad perfectly. BUT, the top and bottom edge are raised indication that the cover isnt long enough to fit properly. this is also a problem for access for the earphone jack and sync cord on bottom, it just doesn’t line up properly. So this needs to be redesigned and get the extra length it needs for that perfect fit.

Just rec’d the new skin. It fits great. I ordered the green- in person it is a little more neon green than the photo, but i like it. The only problem I had, which is my stupidity, is I put the screen protector on wrong, there are two tabs on the screen protector be sure to look at them they are numbered in the order to remove them. I didnt notice the numbers and took off 2 first and applied that to the ipad, then took off number 1, and voila lint everywhere.

Does not fit on the ipad dock but not even the case from Apple fits on the pad in the dock, but it will plug in to the wall without the dock with the skin on.

I went to the apple store to buy the Apple case but wasn’t convinced. I went to Best Buy to purchase a case and screen cover. Best Buy was out of both cases and screen protectors. I am so glad Apple and Best Buy were out of stock! A case and screen protector would have cost me more than $60! I am very satisfied with minisuit cover and screen protector! The screen protector is easy to install if you read the directions. Also, the small removal stickers on the screen protector are numbered 1 and 2 to help you know which side to start with. Be prepared to take the necessary time to do a proper install. The protector works very well. It doesnt produce any glare or reduce the viewing quality in any way. The cover also works very well with touch. There isnt any “drag”.I also am very happy with the case. It is well formed to the iPad. It feels good to hold. It isn’t hard and has no ridges. Don’t waste your money on the competitors, you will be happy with your purchase.

Here it is, short and sweet: for the price, you can’t beat this. I ordered it as protection until the case I really want comes out, so I wasn’t expecting much, but I was surprised. First, I was really impressed with how fast it arrived. Second, the skin case is great quality and it fits my iPad perfectly. The only downside is that it adds some weight, but it’s not excessive. The biggest surprise I had was the screen protector. I was really after the case only, and I thought for sure I would throw away the screen protector. After all, I see several screen protectors for sale by themselves for more than this combo! I took my time and it went on flawlessly. Just make sure you look it over and understand the stickers on the clear sheet. There are actually three clear sheets – the actual screen protector is sandwiched between two thin clear sheets. Slowly take off the one labeled (1) first and slowly apply the screen protector… I found that since it is not incredibly sticky you can pull it up a little bit if you get some air bubbles in and then lay it back down as you go. After you get it all the way on and the bubbles out (I had none because of the technique I mentioned) then pull off sheet labeled (2) and you have it. It is slightly more tacky feeling than the screen itself, but that is to be expected.

So, in conclusion, I gave it 5 stars.
