Review by TBird for StarBase USB 2.0 Wireless LAN 802.11g High Gain WiFi Adapter with 9dBi Dipole Antenna Rating: very first time writing a review so that means its taken alot for me to get disgruntled enough to write one up. i have been using amazon since i joined the service. a few years now. and i have finally come across a product i am less than satisfied with.

first off, didnt work on windows 7 until i used program compatibility mode to mount windows xp. i was happy when it did work. then once installed, my wifi went up to 100% !!! i was so happy after spending a month here in the desert with 10% wifi....... but my happiness was shortlived. once i unplugged it to use on another laptop, it didnt work so well. it was as if it wasnt even plugged in. turns out, there was a corrupted driver! maybe it was just this one out of 100 that was defective but i am not so happy. i havent been able to get my wifi up since the initial install. the box that it came in is very cheesy as if i got it at the local flea market. just as generic as can be. maybe i will dig into it more to see what the issue is exactly but thus far, i am seriously considering sending it back.

i really dont know why the other reviewers gave this thing 5 stars.

Contacted Realtek customer service regarding the problem, but after their first standard response (which did not resolve the problem) never heard from them again despite repeated requests for assistance.

She was using dial-up but getting frustrated with the slow speeds.
You can't reach the motel through a normal WiFi adapter so I got this unit and tried it from my home.
It works great and pulls in remote networks with a good strong signal.

It can also serve as a WiFi network server, but I didn't try this feature ('cause I didn't need it)

Easy to use and set up. Price is right. Antenna is good size though so if you're thinking of getting this for your living room you might want to find a place where you can hide it out of view (about 18").

Hope it helps.
