Problem. – When I put in the new hard drive, the PS3 first asks me to press the PS button the controller. Then next screen that appears have the following message-

The system software cannot be run correctly. Press the PS button to try to restart the system.

If the system cannot be restarted, the system partition of the hard disk must be reformatted and you must reinstall the system software. Connect storage media that contains update data of version x.xx or later and then press the START and SELECT buttons at the same time. For information on how to obtain update data refer to SCE website for your region.

Solution. – First you need to download the latest PS3 Firmware

Then

- To transfer the update data to your PlayStation 3, save the file to a PS3 compatible storage device such as Memory Stick, Memory Stick Duo, USB drive or PSP.

- Before starting, use your PC to create a folder named ‘PS3′ on the storage media or USB device. Within the folder, create a folder named ‘UPDATE’ (This folder name is case sensitive and must appear in all capital letters). Once the UPDATE folder has been created, download / copy the PS3 system software update to this location.

- Once the update data has been saved, disconnect the storage device and connect it to your PS3 via the slots under the slot cover or the USB connectors depending on the device you’re using.

- Once connected, start your PS3 it should recognize the system software and reinstall.

- Then it should start to format the new hard drive. ?
